La mission du CEJFI est d’œuvrer à l’intégration sociale, économique, culturelle et civique des jeunes femmes immigrantes de 12 à 35 ans, en favorisant une approche interculturelle et en visant la défense de leurs droits.
Cette plate-forme d’entraide et d’accélération de l’intégration des jeunes femmes immigrantes à la société québécoise est devenue un organisme de référence en la matière pour les pouvoirs publics. Le CEJFI distingue par la mise en œuvre d’un processus d’accompagnement qui favorise l’autonomie des jeunes femmes immigrantes, en vue d’une intégration rapide.
What are the services that you provide? Can you describe them and your approach?
En plus de services d’accueil et de références à des ressources extérieures, le CEJFI facilite l’intégration des jeunes filles et femmes immigrantes au marché du travail, et les soutient d’un point de vue juridique et psychosocial. Le CEJFI offre aussi un service de dépannage alimentaire et de rapprochement interculturel. Son objectif est de permettre à de nombreuses femmes immigrantes de devenir plus autonomes sur le plan personnel, social, psychologique et économique.

What does your organization do and what are your missions? What makes you different than other organizations working on the same field?
PIRS’ mission is to empower immigrant and refugee women and children to fully participate in Canadian life through neighbourhood-based programs. A detailed statement of their Mission, Vision and Values is posted on their website.
Their programs are located within communities where immigrant and refugee women live, and they work in partnership with agencies across the Lower Mainland. PIRS develops targeted programs that address specific emerging needs ensuring that even the most marginalized and isolated immigrant and refugee women have access.
What are the services that you provide? Can you describe them and your approach?
PIRS has 40 years’ experience in the field of English language instruction, immigrant women’s leadership development and early childhood development. Our work enriches the lives of individuals and families in our community by supporting isolated immigrant and refugee women and their children to become involved, by fostering a sense of belonging and by breaking down patterns of social isolation, poverty and underemployment.
YMCA Cartierville, Montréal

The Cartierville YMCA aims to build stronger communities by providing opportunities for everyone to lead fulfilling, active, healthy and engaged lives.
In fact, it is much more than a fitness centre; it is an important gathering place and the heart of the neighbourhood’s social development. Since becoming a community hub for all residents, young and old alike, it is now the YMCA centre in Québec that welcomes the most families, with many young people participating in its free Friday Teen Night program. The Cartierville YMCA also houses a daycare, a day camp and treats clients from the Centre de réadaptation cardio-respiratoire Jean-Jacques-Gauthier.

The Cartierville YMCA witnesses the challenges facing our communities every day. Through their different actions, they help people adopt healthy lifestyle habits, grow and have a greater sense of belonging to their community. The Cartierville YMCA helps build healthy and vibrant neighbourhoods, where different generations engage, respect and spend time with each other, and where everyone is welcomed, whatever their background.

Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS) is a not-for-profit organization that has been providing core settlement and integration services in Toronto since 1968. Our mission is to empower newcomers in settling and integrating as contributing members of Canadian society through diverse, professional and innovative services. The vision of CICS is to have fully integrated newcomers who participate in and contribute to all spheres of Canadian society.
What are the services that you provide? Can you describe them and your approach?
CICS offers a comprehensive and vibrant array of programs to meet the needs of newcomers and other community members of all age groups. Since our staff reflects the ethnicity of our major clientele, we are able to offer linguistically and culturally appropriate services to enable newcomers to overcome their initial settlement barriers. Our goal is to offer friendly and welcoming services geared towards connecting clients to the community with support in orientation, needs identification, information and referral, and hands-on activities to resolve issues to facilitate settlement and integration. We take pride in organizing city tours, festivals and other celebratory events that help newcomers understand more about life in Canada and provide an opportunity to mingle with long-time residents.
